Here are the steps on how to apply for an Employer Identification Number by mail
  1. 1
    Download FORM SS-4

Traditional Mail Service for the obtainment of your TAX ID is also provided by the IRS, which typically takes about 4-5 weeks, depending on the volume of workload that they need to process. Completing the form and submitting it by mail follows the same logic as the online application. The difference is in the manner of how it is processed as doing it by mail takes more time.

    • The first step is for you to download FORM SS-4 from the IRS website which you can access here.
  2. 2
Fill Out and Complete Form SS-4 Application

    • Make sure to complete Form Ss-4 by filling out the important details that apply to your business.
    • Make sure to indicate the date and signature on the application, and have it sent to the designated address.
    • You may click here for the complete instructions to guide you in the process.
  3. 3
Mail the Form to the Designated Address

After you have completely filled out the form with all the pertinent details as specified in the instruction guide, have it mailed or faxed to:

    Internal Revenue Service
    Attn: EIN Operation
    Cincinnati, OH 45999
    Fax: (855) 641-6935

If you don’t have a legal residence, a principal office or Agency in any state or the District of Columbia, have it mailed for faxed to:

    Internal Revenue Service
    Attn: EIN International Operation
    Cincinnati, OH 45999
    Fax: (855) 215-1627 (within the U.S.)
    Fax: (304) 707-9471 (outside the U.S.)

You can expect to receive your EIN via mail within a period of 4 weeks. In case the application you have submitted is denied due to errors, you will still have to wait for the turnaround time of about 4 weeks in order to receive the ERROR or DENIAL message.

NOTE: These error messages do not contain precise instructions on how to resolve the issue and you may have to restart the whole process.
