There are two (2) ways to register for an Employer Identification Number (EIN) and we have already discussed the option of registering online. We would also like to provide you with instructions on how to register by mail.
Previously, we have learned the importance of acquiring an EIN from the IRS, especially when you have started a new business as it serves as an identification number for tax purposes. In addition, your EIN is also used as a requirement in opening a bank account for your business.
Here are the steps on how to apply for an Employer Identification Number by mail
1
Download FORM SS-4
Traditional Mail Service for the obtainment of your TAX ID is also provided by the IRS, which typically takes about 4-5 weeks, depending on the volume of workload that they need to process. Completing the form and submitting it by mail follows the same logic as the online application. The difference is in the manner of how it is processed as doing it by mail takes more time.
The first step is for you to download FORM SS-4 from the IRS website which you can access here.
2
Fill Out and Complete Form SS-4 Application
Make sure to complete Form Ss-4 by filling out the important details that apply to your business.

3

Fax: (304) 707-9471 (outside the U.S.)
You can expect to receive your EIN via mail within a period of 4 weeks. In case the application you have submitted is denied due to errors, you will still have to wait for the turnaround time of about 4 weeks in order to receive the ERROR or DENIAL message.
